Chinese Chestnut Seedling Trees Available for Fall 2024 Planting!

These seedling Chinese chestnut trees are descended from high-performing, pure Chinese chestnut parent trees. The resulting seed nuts are then grown to seedlings in special air-pruning beds at our ranch in the PA Wilds.

This is our best batch of chestnut seedlings yet! We are so happy with how lush and tall our trees grew this year!

These bareroot seedlings offer highly marketable nuts in both taste and size, less variation than most open-pollinated seedlings, and desired traits including late leafing, fewer nut defects, and consistent production. Plant your chestnut trees today and enjoy fresh chestnuts for a lifetime!

We are a small business in the PA Wilds region of Northern PA, who has been growing trees for 27 years. We strive to grow healthy, vigorous trees with robust root development. We use organic & sustainable methods on our ranch, and believe in leaving the Earth better than we found it.

One day your trees could become part of a chestnut orchard for agricultural production and research, home consumption, or for wildlife and conservation improvement plantings. These nuts are culinary quality, averaging ⅔ oz. (18g) per nut. Production at managed orchards in suitable sites can be up to hundreds of pounds per acre.

Our bareroot seedling trees are well packaged in a moist shipping medium and ship to every state East of the Rocky Mountains. Shipping begins in early November when trees are fully dormant.

Our demonstration chestnut orchard has been grown from these seedlings in zone 5a on a well drained hillside of silty loam soil.

Hardy in USDA Zones 5 and warmer. Our demonstration chestnut orchard has been grown from these seedlings in zone 5a, on a well drained hillside of silty loam soil. Some seedlings may struggle to leaf out after the late frosts common in zone 5a, and will perform at their best in suitable sites from zones 5b-8a. These trees are unlikely to produce nuts in zones 8b or warmer due to lack of necessary winter chilling hours.

Customer Review from 2021:

★★★★★

“Couldn’t be happier with the customer service and the friendly conversations with the owner Steve with this company!!

My order came in exactly when he said it would and it was packaged perfectly and he made sure he didn’t send me anything that was questionable if it would make it or not after planting!

Getting some knowledge and direction for planting tricks from Steve was a big help as well! Where else do you get texts and pictures from someone that’s asking about how your trees are all doing?… you don’t!!

You will not be disappointed with the quality of the trees and his customer service has been above and beyond my expectations! Can’t wait to get more of Steve’s trees in the ground.”
